Lori's Upper Peninsula Photo Album |
All of the pictures in this section were taken on December 9, 2000. Due to the weather I hadn't been out for a drive in a while and I sorely needed to give my car some exercise. |
Federal Forest Hwy 13, extending N/S, cuts straight through the center of the Hiawatha National Forest. |
I'd been told this is a great drive to make for the color changes, which I missed last year. After seeing how the trees hug the road mile after mile it's not hard for me to imagine how breathtaking they will look decked out in a splendor of red, orange, and yellow. I am really looking forward to taking it all in this Fall. |

Not knowing where I'd end up after following Federal Forest Hwy 13 (these roads don't appear on my pocket atlas) I found myself near Munising and the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. In early November I'd been down FFH 58, a road that runs parallel to the lakeshore, and I decided to go again since this time I had my camera with me. I never got there. The last mile or so of the side road, Miner's Castle Road, that leads to the scenic overlook is not maintained in the winter and I got stuck, hahahaha. A very nice woman came by shortly afterwards though, and she and her daughter helped me get my car out. Whew. I should have taken a picture of my car stuck in the snow, but I was laughing so hard at this having happened that it never occurred to me at the time. |

Ahhhhh.....an event I'd been anticipating for a long time has finally come; my first full Autumn in the Upper Peninsula! Last year I was unable to experience much of the seasonal color changes due to the timing of my move up here, but this year I've had the opportunity to spend many an hour out amongst the trees.
The pictures in this section were taken on October 16, 2001 during my eagerly awaited return trip to Federal Forest Hwy 13. |
A variety of trees captured in their Autumn glory... |
